Academic Culture
Students notice striking differences between the U.S. and U.K. education systems. The British model is less structured and requires students to take more responsibility and initiative. Students will notice less class time and more independent work. The CIEE staff supports students as they adapt to this new style. Professors teach with lectures, group seminars, tutorials, workshops, studios, and laboratory work, depending on the subject. Key concepts and topics are usually introduced in lectures and might be discussed in smaller groups. Students have opportunities to collaborate, and a tutorial system provides support.
Class Format
Students take Goldsmiths classes with British students as well as other CIEE and international students.
Grading
Assessment is based on overall performance, including coursework, essays, exams, and participation in seminars.
