London has a history stretching back to the Romans, there are four World Heritage sites, leading museums and plenty of green spaces. A contemporary global city, London is home to almost 9 million people from all over the world. A major financial center and leading hub for the arts London has many eclectic neighborhoods to discover.
The Culture

EXCURSIONS & ACTIVITIES
- Get to know London with regular outings and activities like: exploring museums, markets, and iconic sites like Buckingham Palace, St. Pauls Cathedral, and Greenwich.
- Take a break from the city’s fast pace in one of many green spaces in and around the capital.
- Explore a historic location outside London on a day trip. Previous day trips have include Bath, Oxford, Cambridge and Canterbury.

Housing will be in either a residence hall or shared apartments centrally located in Bloomsbury, Farringdon or Kings Cross. Students will share twin or triple rooms.

Academics

Students choose one, two, or three 4-week sessions and focus on Britain’s history, culture, politics, business, and more. Courses are taught by faculty from London institutions and visiting faculty from around the world. In-class work is augmented with co-curricular visits to the city’s rich variety of cultural institutions and organizations relevant to the course offering.
CIEE Global Institute – London is located in the heart of Bloomsbury. It sits in one of the most vibrant and student-populated neighborhoods of central London and features Georgian-style architecture, classrooms, a café, garden terrace, and tech zone.

All students must enroll in one CIEE course per session
Program Credit
Total credit: 3-4 U.S. semester/4.5-6 quarter credits per session
Course Credit
CIEE courses: 3 U.S. semester/4.5 quarter credits; 45 contact hours per session
Academic Culture
CIEE courses are designed to follow U.S. academic culture and standards. Each course is a full semester in content, so the pace is accelerated, and the workload is demanding. To avoid falling behind, students should not plan personal travel away from London when classes are in session.
Class Format
Classes taught at the CIEE Global Institute are for CIEE students only. Classes are scheduled Monday-Friday and attendance is strictly enforced for both classes and required co-curricular excursions. The class typically features a combination of traditional lecture, discussion, and co-curricular activities. Heavy emphasis is placed on student participation. Students should expect an average of two hours of preparation for each hour in class. Instruction is supported and augmented online by our learning management system, Canvas.
Grading
The U.S. grading scale of A-F is used. Students are graded on attendance, class participation, homework, project work, presentations, and midterm and final examinations.

To help you budget, keep in mind that students are responsible for the cost of international airfare, local transportation, books and supplies, visas, and personal expenses. In addition, your college or university may charge additional fees for study abroad, or may require you to receive a transcript via CIEE's School of Record, which carries an additional fee of $500.
