Cape Town is South Africa’s coastal gem, celebrated for its stunning natural beauty, vibrant cultural life, and diverse communities. The city comes alive with outdoor adventures, from hiking Table Mountain to exploring coastal trails and enjoying local festivals, markets, and cuisine. Whether you are majoring in business, science, environmental studies, technology, communications, psychology, health sciences, liberal arts, language, or fine arts, Cape Town is the perfect place to study abroad.

Program Highlights
- Diversity Your Experience: Spend 1 or 2 consecutive 6-week blocks of your summer in the same host city or travel to different cities per block for increased mobility and cultural immersion.
- Academic Courses: Choose from CIEE courses and online courses delivered by CIEE’s global partner, ASU, that align with your academic major.
- Immersive Experiences: Participate in activities, excursions, study tours, and more that showcase your host city's culture, values, and local art, film, music, cuisine, and sports scenes.
- Cultural Projects: Volunteer with members of the local community, join student clubs to socialize with your peers, and attend local workshops and events to get to know your host city."

Excursions & Activities
CIEE’s excursions and cultural activities in Cape Town will open doors for you to explore South Africa’s rich diversity, language, culture, history, and timeless beauty in ways that will enhance your time abroad.
Samples of past excursions and activities:
- Learn to cook traditional foods from Cape Malay, isiXhosa, and Afrikaans peoples in a Food Jam
- Try your hand at traditional dances from South African ethnic groups, including the isiXhosa people
- Participate in local theater, music, and dance productions, museum tours, rugby matches, local festivals

Housing & Meals
Housing
CIEE Cape Town offers comfortable apartments conveniently accessible to the study center, public transportation, shops, and other amenities. All rooms are fully furnished, offer a full kitchen, and feature complimentary Wi-Fi access. CIEE supplies cutlery, crockery, and bed linens, but students must bring their own towels. Students can enjoy social interaction with their peers and local South African students in a variety of communal areas. They may also appreciate the quiet spaces that allow them to study on their own or work on tasks in a group
Standard Housing: Includes a single or double room with another CIEE student. Each apartment has shared spaces, including a kitchen and bathroom. The accommodation is within a 20-minute walk to CIEE and the University of Cape Town’s main campus.
A note: The default criterion to assign housing is first-come, first-served; however, other factors may also be considered. If we cannot accommodate your first housing choice, we'll let you know before you arrive. Non-standard housing options require an additional fee that can be found in the program Dates and Fees.
Meals
Students are responsible for all meals They can prepare their own meals at their apartment or eat at the many restaurants in the vicinity.
Academics
CIEE Cape Town: Study in the vibrant student-friendly suburb of Rondebosch near central Cape Town. CIEE Cape Town boasts two main classrooms, a small meeting room, a student lounge, a student life office, and an academic advising office.
Arizona State University (ASU): Brought to you by CIEE in partnership with ASU, enhance your international coursework with online classes that align with your degree requirements. ASU offers thousands of online courses in asynchronous 6-week sessions that fit within the CIEE academic calendar.
