Your Destination
Seville has its origins in the trade routes controlled by the Phoenicians in the 8th century BC. Romans, Goths, Muslims, and Christians established their capital here before it became the most important city in Southern Europe and gateway to the Americas in the 16th century. As the commercial hub of its region, the city preserves many traces of its past and traditions. With 700,000 residents, Seville offers a large variety of cultural activities that range from the Flamenco Biennial and the European Film Festival to alternative theater venues, bars with live music, beautiful streets and open spaces and, of course, one of the most respected bullrings in the world. Additionally, Seville’s neighborhoods have 160km of bike trails, making it one of the best cities in world for bikers.
CIEE wants all our students to feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to succeed while studying abroad. Local CIEE staff have provided details about conditions and cultural attitudes that students with specific identities might encounter in Seville.

Students choose one, two, or three 4-week sessions and enroll in one language or content course per session. Courses are taught by highly qualified faculty and professionals who are experienced in teaching Spanish as a foreign language. All CIEE faculty are familiar with the U.S. academic system and culture. In-class work is augmented with co-curricular visits to the city’s rich variety of cultural institutions and organizations relevant to the course offering.
Language placement – Prior to departure for Seville, all students take a scheduled CIEE online placement exam. Results determine appropriate placement in language courses. Placement in many upper-level courses depends on a high score.
CIEE Seville is in the center of Seville in a beautifully renovated palace built in 1725. The facility includes classrooms, computer room, student services, Language Resource Center, and resident staff.
