HOUSING
Shared Apartments: Most students live in shared apartments in Paris with other CIEE Summer in Paris students. Student apartments are located throughout the city but will be within a 45-minute commute of the Global Institute.
Homestays: A limited number of homestays may be available, with preference given to those whose universities require living with a local family.

MEALS
Shared Apartments: Meals are not provided for students staying in apartments. Each apartment has its own kitchen where students may prepare their meals.
Homestays: Students who live with homestay families receive breakfast daily plus five additional meals per week.

With classrooms, library space, computer areas and more, our institute is less than a minute away from the Grands Boulevards, a 10-minute walk to the Palais Royal, and a 15-minute walk to the Louvre.

Academics

Students choose one, two, or three 4-week sessions and immerse themselves in French culture while exploring topics of literature, art, history, film studies, and architecture. Students can also opt to take a Communicative French Language course (1 credit) during a single session. All courses are taught by faculty from a range of Paris institutions and are specialists in their respective fields. In-class work is augmented with co-curricular visits to the city’s rich variety of cultural institutions and organizations relevant to the course offerings.
CIEE Global Institute – Paris is located on rue du Sentier in the lively Sentier neighborhood in the 2nd arrondissement. It is just a 10-minute walk to the Palais Royal and a 15-minute walk to the Louvre.

Program Requirements
All students must enroll in one 3-credit CIEE course per session
Program Credit
Total credit: 3-4 U.S. semester/4.5-6 quarter credits per session
Course Credit
- CIEE courses: 3 U.S. semester/4.5 quarter credits; 45 contact hours per session
- CIEE Communicative Language course: 1 U.S. semester/1.5 quarter credits; 15 contact hours
Academic Culture
Each four-week course is a full semester in content, so the pace is accelerated and the workload demanding. CIEE courses are designed to follow U.S. academic culture and standards. To avoid falling behind, students should not plan personal travel out of Paris when classes are in session.
Class Format
Courses taught at the CIEE Global Institute are for CIEE students only. Classes are scheduled Monday-Friday and may include evening sessions. Classes are made up of a mix of lectures, discussions, field trips, guest lectures, and other excursions that provide a unique, place-based academic experience. Attendance is strictly enforced both for classes and required co-curricular excursions.
Grading
You’ll be graded on a combination of participation, written tests, short papers, and oral exposés. Participation and punctuality in all classes weigh heavily in student evaluations.
