Semester in Sydney

By: Jordan Schwartz

Choosing Sydney, Australia with CIEE Study Abroad was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I cannot even begin to describe how incredible this experience has been. I have made unforgettable memories and lifelong friends in what has to be one of the most beautiful places on Earth. When I first got here, I was so scared. I came pretty much alone, not knowing anyone, and had no idea what to expect. On top of that, I chose a location pretty much across the entire world from my home in New Jersey. But now, with only a month left, I can’t imagine leaving. I have developed lasting relationships with both locals and other students in CIEE, and have done the coolest things. Everyday is fun and different, and there is so much opportunity for travel and new experiences.

Some of my favorite trips here have been traveling to Thailand (which was a lifelong dream of mine), Bali, and New Zealand. Locally, some of my favorite activities have been the Coogee to Bondi walk, a day trip to go wine tasting in the Hunter Valley, and sandboarding down the dunes in Port Stephens. Even on regular days when I have class and homework, they are still filled with fun activities like getting coffee with my roommates or exploring a new beach. It has also been so cool and eye opening immersing myself in a different culture. I have learned so much about the country and way of life. I have also learned so much about myself. If you are thinking about studying abroad, you should definitely give it a shot even if you are scared. I wouldn’t trade this semester for the world.
