Eating Through Rome
By: Sammi Desch
Over the last couple of months, I have curated guides for the best food in Rome from locals, chefs, friends, professors, Reddit, and through my own exploration. If you are in Rome for a day, a week, or studying abroad, these are the MUST GO places I would put at the top of your list.
Gelato
Gelateria Fassi: One of the oldest Gelato factories in Rome and regarded as the best. The factory boasts a simplistic design, a large variety of flavors, and delicious gelato! The gelateria is located in Esquilino and is near lots of cute cafes and parks.
Sandwiches
Mordi Sandwichhouse: I have only been once, but the sandwich did not disappoint my high expectations. Located near Vatican City, this sandwich is the perfect lunch for a student on the way to class!
Dinner
Corsetti 1921: Located on a quieter street in Trastevere, this restaurant has the best pasta I have had in Rome. A well-decorated interior and friendly staff, I would 100% recommend this spot and will surely miss it!
Antica Birreria Peroni: A casual Roman eatery with an untouched interior for over a century. This local tavern has great food at a reasonable price and is located right in the center.
Casadora: In Prati, you will find a yellow awning with an amazing gastro restaurant, where I had the most flavorful meal! I recommend getting the Ravioli ripieni di totani.
Street Food/Casual
Ce Stamo a Pensà: A delicious and trendy spot for great Neapolitan food! The fried pizza is worth the typical 20-25 minute wait, which is made much more bearable by the manager often giving free samples to those in line.
Trappizino: For a true Roman street food, go to Trappizino. The pizza pockets are not quite like anything I have ever tasted! There are multiple locations in Trastevere and Testaccio. I recommend getting the eggplant above all choices.
Desert
Dolcemascolo: I got this recommendation from a tiramisu chef, so it’s safe to say I hold this bakery in high regard. Although known for their bite-sized tiramisu, Dolcemascolo has an array of delectable desserts. The pictured birthday cake was devoured in minutes!
