Berlin Bites
By: Nina Marra
Studying abroad in Berlin has been nothing short of amazing. One of my favorite breakfast places in Berlin is Breggs, which is an egg sandwich place that offers a numerous amount of different toppings within the sandwich. The bread is to die for and my friends and I often find ourselves dreaming about this place. There are a ton of small cafes that offer different pastries that are all delicious. If you are in the mood for some tapas Yosoy is one of my favorite places to get a smaller meal in. They have a bunch of different spanish tapas that are surprisingly filling although they are small dishes. My favorite dish at Yosoy is Papas Bravas con su salsa.
My friends and I find ourselves at Espresso House all the time in order to do work. Due to the fact that in the United States we are used to huge coffees, we were searching around Berlin for the biggest coffee possible. The Asian cuisine in Berlin is unbelievable and we’ve tried so many ramen and sushi places, and they’ve all been amazing. Back at home, I usually have sushi almost every week so being in Berlin where Asian food is amazing has made me super excited to try a bunch of spots. My absolute favorite spot, though, is called Bless. The food is exceptional, and the atmosphere feels so special, like a hidden gem in the city. For traditional German food, Nante-Uck is unbeatable. I think that their sausage and steak is the best I’ve ever had while trying to branch out into German food culture.
Currently, it’s Christmas time here and Berlin feels magical. The Christmas markets are everywhere, and they’re like stepping into a fairytale. I’ve eaten truffle pasta, Nutella crepes, and donuts while sipping hot chocolate and Glühwein, surrounded by twinkling lights and festive decorations. We have tried multiple markets and they all have their own special touch which is hard to rank which one is my favorite. I think that if you find yourself in Berlin during Christmas time you should experience as many Christmas Markets as you can. Overall, Berlin has been such an amazing experience for me and I am extremely thankful for this experience.
