Spend your winter break in South Korea’s captivating capital, Seoul! During this exciting three-week program, you’ll discover the city’s special blend of ancient traditions and modern innovations. In addition to earning credits and learning about Korean culture, you’ll have plenty of time to explore Seoul’s dynamic city limits and beyond. From admiring stately palaces and sampling diverse foods to experiencing lively nightlife and visiting dozens of museums, galleries, and theme parks, there’s so much to see and do.  

During your time abroad, be sure to escape to South Korea’s natural wonders, like the country’s many national parks made for breathtaking hikes, waterfall visits, and appreciating stunning temples and shrines. South Korea’s 5,000+ years of rich cultural heritage lends itself to plenty of sustainable ways to make the most of your time abroad.

The dynamic city of Seoul has been South Korea’s capital for more than 600 years. A vibrant business and financial hub, it is also a “smart city.” Seoul brims with culture, boasting more than 100 museums, numerous religious monuments, parks, markets, festivals, sports teams, and majestic palaces. The mighty Han River flows through the city, and rugged mountains loom in the distance.

All students take one required course.

Academic Culture

The program is made up of three weeks of classes with an intensive orientation beforehand. CIEE courses are taught at CIEE Seoul and are designed to follow U.S. academic culture. Class attendance is strictly enforced both for classes and required co-curricular excursions. 

Class Format

Courses are for CIEE students only. Courses are taught Monday through Friday. Instruction is supported and augmented online by our learning management system, Canvas. 

Grading

Assessment is based on the individual’s overall performance in the course, including essays, coursework, and final examinations or papers. Students must check with their professors to find out exam and project presentation dates. Under no circumstances will CIEE alter deadlines or exam dates for study abroad students who have made conflicting travel plans. The U.S. grading scale of A-F is used.

To help you budget, keep in mind that students are responsible for the cost of international airfare, local transportation, books and supplies, visas, and personal expenses. In addition, your college or university may charge additional fees for study abroad, or may require you to receive a transcript via CIEE's School of Record, which carries an additional fee of $500.

Program Fees

CIEE offers the most student support of any provider in its program fee, including an airport greeting, full-time leadership and support, orientation, cultural activities, local excursions, pre-departure advising, and CIEE iNext travel protection with benefits.

Financial Aid

CIEE offers the most grants and scholarships of any study abroad organization, including $8 million/year in travel grants, merit-based scholarships, institutional and MSI grants, and Gilman Go Global Grants.
