The London Eye

London history may be grounded in Roman times, but it’s always reaching for the future. As a major financial center with a strong flow of venture capital and a leading hub for the arts, you’ll find a high-energy vibe and plenty of eclectic neighborhoods to explore. Home to nearly nine million people from all over the globe, you can hear 300 languages here.

Our London eLab is centrally situated in the Bloomsbury neighborhood on Russell Square, just a few minutes walk from St. Pancras and Kings Cross stations. 

Housing 

Participants can find housing independently or take advantage of housing we have carefully selected and negotiated for you. (Please note: Availability may vary.)

We’ve selected new one-bedroom studio apartments close to eLab, in the middle of the startup scene and close to cafes, restaurants, leisure areas, and shopping. Studios have fully equipped kitchenettes including a microwave, bi-weekly towel change, weekly maid service, free WiFi, gym, and laundry rooms. Prices start GBP 2,490 for six weeks.

    Housing will be in either a residence hall or shared apartments centrally located in Bloomsbury, Farringdon or Kings Cross. Students will share twin or triple rooms.

    Located in the heart of Bloomsbury, one of the most vibrant and student-populated neighborhoods of central London. CIEE’s new London campus, located on Russell Square, features Georgian-style architecture, 10 classrooms, a café, garden terrace, and tech zone, located near a wealth of cultural and educational opportunities.

    Students will commute mostly via public transportation. We provide an introduction to the system during orientation, and students are responsible for securing their own public transportation pass.

Eligibility

We believe you need passion for ideas and processes to be successful as founders and key market players. We look for this passion in our participants, as well as a broad range of backgrounds and experience. We also ask participants to meet these requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent – a business background is an advantage but not required.
  • Strong English language speaking and writing skills. All instruction will be provided in English, so this is a must. Each candidate will be evaluated with a Skype interview. (Upgrade your business and professional English skills with us at eLab, with a 20-hour business and professional English course.)
  • A passion for entrepreneurship and start-up culture, shown in your application statement and Skype interview.
  • An interest in meeting people from around the world and working in an international setting.

Academics

  • CLASS FORMAT

    Each day is packed with intense learning, led by top business professors and founders, eager to share their own start-up experiences. Unlock discovery with lectures, workshops and more, including: Fireside Chats - Informal sessions with business leaders and guests focus on specific topics, like negotiating or innovation accounting, and encourage lively discussion. Specializations - Deep dives into key areas like digital marketing and data analysis.

  • Commitment

    These intensive programs include more than 53 seminar hours, weekly individual and additional group mentoring sessions with the option to schedule more, at least five company visits, six fireside chats and approximately 100 project hours. Expect to commit 100 percent of your time for the duration of the program and attend all sessions.

  • Scholarships

    We want to help as many people as possible benefit from eLab.

Eligibility

  • OVERALL GPA

    Students need to have a GPA of at least 2.5. Students participating in the London Semester Global Internship program must maintain full-time student status at their home university while participating in the CIEE program, and must have matriculated full-time at their home university at least three months prior to application. Students should be prepared to obtain a signed letter from their home university confirming student matriculation details. *Additional visa restrictions may apply and CIEE will advise students as part of the early application process. 

  • PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

    Upon completing the two electives during the first six-week block, students participate in an integrated academic seminar taught alongside the eight-week, full-time internship. The seminar and the internship are both required components of the program. 

  • Program Credit

    Total credit for the program is 12-15 semester/18-22.5 quarter hours.

Curriculum

Explore literature, history, religion, and more with our course offerings. Students will enroll in:

  • Two CIEE elective courses offered on a six-week academic block system
  • Eight-week full-time internship with an integrated online academic seminar
  • Optional additional CIEE elective course: Doing Business in Europe.

You get more for every dollar when you study abroad with CIEE, because our high-quality programs include everything from excursions to insurance. There are no hidden charges, and no disappointing surprises when you arrive.

CIEE offers the most student support of any provider in its program fee, including an airport greeting, full-time leadership and support, orientation, cultural activities, local excursions, pre-departure advising, and CIEE iNext travel insurance with benefits.

Financial Aid

CIEE offers the most grants and scholarships of any study abroad organization, including $5 million/year in travel grants, merit-based scholarships, MSI grants, Gilman matching grants, and Pell matching grants.

Students required to study on CIEE programs through a School of Record will be charged a $500 administrative fee in addition to the Program Fees listed.
