    Housing will be in either a residence hall or shared apartments centrally located in Bloomsbury, Farringdon or Kings Cross. Students will share twin or triple rooms.

  • MEALS

    No meals are provided in London but students will have access to kitchen facilities to cook their own meals.

    Located in the heart of Bloomsbury, one of the most vibrant and student-populated neighborhoods of central London. CIEE’s new London campus, located on Russell Square, features Georgian-style architecture, 10 classrooms, a café, garden terrace, and tech zone, located near a wealth of cultural and educational opportunities.

    Students will commute mostly via public transportation. We provide an introduction to the system during orientation, and students are responsible for securing their own public transportation pass.

The program details

As a global intern in London, you’ll work in a non-paying position within a wide range of opportunities across a diverse set of industries. Co-curricular excursions and cultural activities in and around London  complement your coursework and immerse you in the history and culture of the city.

This semester-long program includes 6-weeks of academic coursework and an 8-week full-time internship and academic seminar. Class environment varies depending on the course and is designed to follow U.S. academic culture and standards.

  • CLASS FORMAT

    Students begin by taking two CIEE elective courses offered on a six-week academic block system. The second part of the program includes an eight-week CIEE full-time internship (200-240 hours) and academic course for 6 semester/9 quarter hours. In addition, students have the option to enroll in one additional CIEE elective course. Students should expect to spend 30-32 hours per week engaged in internship project work.

  • GRADING

    The U.S. grading scale of A-F is used. Final grades are based on class participation, homework, individual project work, presentations, and mid-term and final exams. Students will be assessed via assignments and activities related to the integrated academic seminar, as outlined in the syllabus. Internship supervisors and students each provide written evaluations of progress towards goals.

  • ACADEMIC CULTURE

    Students are expected to dress and behave professionally throughout their internship project and are subject to the agreed-upon internship protocols arranged by CIEE and the host organizations.

Eligibility

  • OVERALL GPA

    Students need to have a GPA of at least 2.5. Students participating in the London Semester Global Internship program must maintain full-time student status at their home university while participating in the CIEE program, and must have matriculated full-time at their home university at least three months prior to application. Students should be prepared to obtain a signed letter from their home university confirming student matriculation details. *Additional visa restrictions may apply and CIEE will advise students as part of the early application process. 

  • PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

    Upon completing the two electives during the first six-week block, students participate in an integrated academic seminar taught alongside the eight-week, full-time internship. The seminar and the internship are both required components of the program. 

  • Program Credit

    Total credit for the program is 12-15 semester/18-22.5 quarter hours.

Curriculum

Explore literature, history, religion, and more with our course offerings. Students will enroll in:

  • Two CIEE elective courses offered on a six-week academic block system
  • Eight-week full-time internship with an integrated academic seminar
  • Optional: one additional CIEE elective course on Intercultural Communication and Leadership or Doing Business in Europe.
