Your Destination
Cobblestone streets, ancient bridges, and a hilltop castle help lend the City of a Hundred Spires its reputation as one of the world’s most beautiful. Prague is unique in Europe, having shed its communist past and still brimming with carefully preserved monuments from every period and style in its millennial history. There’s plenty of quirky, too, like the Zizkov Tower adorned with climbing babies, and the distinctly nontraditional Dancing House. Easy to explore on foot, the city boasts a rich cultural life that includes concerts, festivals, operas, and more – many of which you can access on a student budget.

EXCURSIONS & ACTIVITIES
- Explore more of the region with two excursions – one day trip and one overnight trip. Destinations change annually, and have included
- Terezín, former Jewish ghetto and Nazi labor camp.
- Sychrov, home of a beautiful neo-Gothic castle and famous gothic fortress built in Roman times.
- Litomerice, where the Ploskovice castle and historical structures date back to the 13th century.
- Karlovy Vary, a noted spa town.
- Plzeň, home of Europe’s second largest synagogue, the Victims of Evil monument, and the George Patton Museum.
- Get an insider’s view of Prague with the help of your Flat Buddy, a Charles University student who will teach you cultural norms and introduce you to Czech culture.
- Make your visit official by traversing the Charles Bridge, constructed to cross the Vltava River in 1357.

HOUSING
Shared Apartments: Housing is included in the study abroad program fee. Students reside in apartments in popular neighborhoods with fellow CIEE participants. In some apartments, students have a local Charles University student as a “flat buddy” – a roommate who helps CIEE with student activities and provides a bridge to the local culture. Students share double rooms and kitchen and bathroom facilities.
Apartments are located throughout Prague and commuting times and distances vary. It’s important for students to be aware that commuting is part of daily life in Prague, and the location of most apartments requires daily use of public transportation. It is common for the student commute, including public transportation and walking, to take up to 30 minutes one way. A transportation pass is included in the program fees.
-
MEALS
Meals are not included and are the responsibility of the student. Students can purchase food supplies and prepare meals in the apartment kitchens.
