Your Destination
Stately architecture and a steady influx of European immigrants earned Buenos Aires the nickname, the Paris of South America. Founded in 1536, this surprisingly navigable metropolis reveals influence of Europe in architecture and café life. A vibrant port city, Buenos Aires is also the world’s leading Spanish language publishing center. With a population of 13 million, it has the cultural intrigue found only in cities of this size and prestige.
CIEE wants all our students to feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to succeed while studying abroad. Local CIEE staff have provided details about conditions and cultural attitudes that students with specific identities might encounter in Buenos Aires.

HOUSING
Homestay: Experience real, day-to-day life in Buenos Aires by living with an Argentine host family. Host options may be traditional or non-traditional, including families with young children, single professionals, young couples with no children, and older couples whose children visit but do not live at home. We match as much as possible family hosts to student preferences. The typical commute between homestays and CIEE Buenos Aires can range from a 15-minute walk to a 30-minute public transportation ride. Homestays include a weekly laundry service.
-
MEALS
Local homestays include two meals per day: breakfast and either lunch or dinner. Host families and students arrange their own meal schedules. Students are responsible for the remaining meal, either preparing them at home or eating in one of many restaurants and cafés throughout the city.
*As long as the local health and safety regulations permit, students will stay in Homestays following new CIEE Health Guidelines. In case students cannot stay in Homestays as usually done, Apartments will be arranged for students. Apartments are located in a safe residential area, close to markets, shops, restaurants, and public transportation. These are furnished for single or double occupancy and are located within walking distance from the CIEE Buenos Aires. Meals are not included in Apartment stays.

Academic Culture

The class environment typically features a combination of traditional lecture and discussion with co-curricular activities. Special focus is paid on experiential learning and outside-classroom activities to best develop Spanish language competence. Heavy emphasis is placed on student participation. Teaching methods will be familiar to U.S. students who have studied foreign language. Instructors are experienced in second language instruction, and there are staff and resources to help students navigate academic cultural differences.

Instruction is supported and augmented online by our Canvas e-learning platform.
