Special focus is paid on experiential learning and outside-classroom activities to best develop Spanish language competence. Heavy emphasis is placed on student participation. Teaching methods will be familiar to U.S. students who have studied foreign language. Instructors are experienced in second language instruction, and there are staff and resources to help students navigate academic cultural differences.
Courses are taught in Spanish by CIEE Spanish department faculty at the CIEE Global Institute and are for CIEE students only. Classes are scheduled Monday-Friday and meet five times per week. Attendance is strictly enforced for both classes and required co-curricular excursions. Students should expect an average of two hours of preparation required for each hour in class. Instruction is supported and augmented online by our Canvas e-learning platform.
The U.S. grading scale of A-F is used. Students’ grades are based on attendance, class participation, homework, project work, presentations, and midterm and final examinations.
