Running in Sevilla!
By: Olivia Benedict
Moving to a new city can be exciting for runners, with so many new routes to post about on Strava. But, if you’re like me, sometimes it can an overwhelming to not have a clue of where to go first, what paths will end half a mile into your run, and which streets will get you run over. After four months here, I can successfully say I haven’t been run over AND I’ve discovered some amazing routes to share with you all. Starting at the CIEE Study abroad center, here are five routes (one short, three medium, and one long distance) to try:
- Run to and around the Sevilla Cathedral. This route is about one mile long out-and-back. It will take you south from CIEE to the most iconic building in Sevilla – the Cathedral and Giralda.
- Run in Maria Luisa Park. This route is about two miles long out-and-back, but can be longer depending on how long you’d like to run in the park. It will take you south from CIEE to Maria Luisa Park, passing the University of Sevilla and the Plaza de España. The park is beautiful and vast, with many paths perfect for a run.
- Run to the Triana Bridge. This route is about two miles long out-and-back, but you can cross the bridge for a longer run exploring Triana. It will take you west from CIEE to the Triana Bridge. From there, you can also run north or south along the river for views of the bridges and the boats.
- Run in Miraflores Park. This route is about four miles long out-and-back, but can be longer depending on how long you’d like to run in the park. It will take you north from CIEE to Miraflores Park, through some of the underrated neighborhoods of Sevilla. This park is gorgeous (better than Maria Luisa in my opinion) and will be less busy than the other locations).
- Run to Amarillo Park via the river. This route is about eight miles long out-and-back, but can be longer depending on how long you’d like to run in the park. It will take you west from CIEE to the river, then north along the river on a pedestrian path. The run to the park takes you by numerous bridges and monuments and the park has hundreds of orange trees and historical monuments.
Wishing you the best running luck!
