A Day in My Life in Seoul
Sundays here are usually my study days. Sunday April 2nd, I went to 3fcafe to catch with Soyeon (one of the sweetest seoulmates and friends here). We met up and caught up because we hadn’t seen each other in about a week. Then after we studied. Or I studied and Soyeon took a nap!
After studying for a while, we went to Hangang River to enjoy the Cherry Blossoms. Before going we stopped by a burger place to get some food because were both hungry. Hangang River was busy and full of people taking pictures with cherry blossoms. There were kids running around, playing with the dirt. Some were biking. There were tons of couples cuddled up or feeding each other.
Soyeon and I sat on the stairs near the river and enjoyed our burgers. We talked about her mom’s reaction to getting a nose piercing. She told me she had been very scared because her mom and dad were really conservative. But much to her surprise her mom reacted fairly well and told her she thought she would have gotten a belly button piercing. I was happy that her mom reacted well especially because since I had met her at the airport, she complimented my piercing and told me how badly she wanted one.
After talking more, we walked around, took some cute pictures, and just enjoyed each other’s company. We took pictures and enjoyed the cherry blossoms too! They cherry blossoms here are so beautiful. Unfortunately, they lasted a shorter amount than I thought they were, but they were beautiful while they lasted! Then we walked across the Han River bridge and went home. Soyeon Park is one of my dearest friends and I’m so grateful that I met her through the Seoulmates CIEE program.
The Seoulmates program is one of the most rewarding experiences here. Seoulmates are a group of young locals who lead monthly CIEE cultural activities. They also help students adjust to life in Korea. Most of them are willing to help you if you have trouble with anything here or have any questions about living here. Soyeon has helped me find local spots with great food. She helped me get eye drops when my allergies started getting bad. She welcomed me and talked to me about Korean culture. She’s one of my best friends here.
