Q1: What excites you most about studying abroad in Latin America?
This trip to Costa Rica is the first time I have traveled outside the United States. This opportunity has been exciting and special to me for many reasons, but getting to explore Costa Rica as my first international trip is one I will never forget. What excites me most is that the culture and environment is so inviting and new.
Q2: What do you hope to learn (academically, culturally, and/or personally) during your semester abroad?
Living in the Monteverde Cloud Forest is a unique experience that I hope to take full advantage of for my major as an environmental student. I also hope to learn a lot about myself and what I can do when I get out of my comfort zone.

Q3: What does “leading for change” mean to you?
This Leading Change in Latin America Fellowship was an exciting addition to my study abroad experience. Being someone others can turn to for advice or insight into what it’s like studying abroad has been a rewarding thing to be a part of. This is an opportunity to inspire others and be the kind of guide I would have found valuable when making my decision as well.
Q4: How does cultural immersion abroad help you become a more conscious global citizen?
I get to learn and speak a different language, understand local’s way of living, and be open to new ideas. Being able to do these things is special because I am experiencing them hands-on and can connect with people on a deeper level. And hopefully after this experience it will make me a more adaptable and informed person.

Q5: What parting advice do you have for other students who want to apply for this opportunity for spring 2026?
I would say to go for it! I applied unsure if I would be selected, but getting that news was both a surprise and an excitement! This program has enhanced my own study abroad experience by giving me a fulfilling opportunity to help others to study abroad
