3 Cities in 5 Days? Challenge Accepted!
By: Madeline Passarello
Throughout my time studying abroad I had so many amazing experiences. Studying in Berlin gave me the ability to travel to 15 different cities over the course of my 18-week program. It’s very hard to pick a favorite place I went, but one of my favorite trips I did was to Italy. Because I had a 5-day break from school, my friends and I were able to travel to Rome, Florence, and Milan during this time. After arriving in Rome, we spent the day walking around the city seeing so many amazing pieces of history. The colosseum, the Pantheon, and the Roman Forum were the most notable in my opinion. After a long day of exploring, we sat in a restaurant for our first meal of Italian pasta. It was amazing.
After dinner in Rome, we caught an evening train to Florence. The next day we walked around to the Duomo in Florence, which was one of the most amazing pieces of architecture I have ever seen. We got delicious sandwiches and headed to the famous wine window, which was created during the black plague to allow people to socialize with drinks in the streets. It was a really cool experience! After that, we got gelato, which was of course delicious. The meals we had while we were in Florence were also a highlight. I would love to go back one day for a longer time!
On Monday morning, we got on a train to Milan. Upon exiting the train station, we were standing right in front of the Duomo, which was an amazing sight. Milan was a very clean city, and there were many designer stores and places to shop all around the city. We only had one day and one night there, but it was amazing to walk around and see the city regardless.
Italy was definitely among my top trips; it was an awesome experience to get to travel throughout the country for a few days instead of just having to stick to one city. I would definitely love to go back one day!
