A Time for Tea

As you might've heard (we've been pretty excited about it), the CIEE Kyoto team moved into a shiny new space last June with lovely big windows overlooking one of central Kyoto's most charming cultural boulevards. And we've already filled all the new desks and classrooms (and then some!). In order to maintain the community feeling and commitment that's been our strength through the organization's burst of growth these past few years, and to make the most of our bright and cheerful communal space, from December each of our teams has been taking turns at a little inward-facing event planning. 

Our first monthly Teatime was hosted by the College team with good company and tasty treats from one of our favourite Kyoto restaurants to nourish our bodies and spirits in preparation for a very busy month ahead. At the end of January, our Pre-College team treated us all to a delicious Malaysian meal as we gathered to give thanks to some members leaving the team as well as appreciation across the board. February's Valentine's Day teatime was lovingly curated by Academics' dynamic duo with strawberries and roses-- and love-heart macarons. We got to compare our office love languages and gained a Mad Hatter's collection of pre-loved china teacups and saucers for the office cupboard. Last week the weather was still a little cold for the Imperial Palace Park cherry blossom viewing I had envisioned for March, so we laid out our tarpaulins to picnic in the office and the Custom team ran (and cycled) around the city collecting flowers, packed lunches, and springtime treats from some of our favorite Kyoto small shops.

Our teatimes have provided us a casual and friendly means to mark achievements and share challenges-- as well as a short break from all the work talk to simply enjoy each other's company. I particularly look forward to the different atmosphere each different organizer-- and micro season--  will bring. Not least the Keep Calm and Have a Cuppa Great British Teatime coming from our dauntless Center Director in April.
