GAIN Grants
Affording Study Abroad Just Got Easier
Funding Designed to Help You Go Abroad
Studying abroad is an investment in your future, and finances shouldn't stand in the way of a life-changing global experience. Through CIEE's Global Access Initiative (GAIN) Grants, high-need students can access funding to help cover program fees and airfare, making it easier to turn study abroad plans into reality. Explore the grants below to see how GAIN awards can help support your journey abroad!
GAIN Scholars Grant
Semester/Quarter Programs: Up to $2,000 toward program fees
The Global Access Initiative (GAIN) Scholars Grant helps reduce program fees, making a CIEE Study Abroad experience more affordable and accessible.
To apply:
- Students upload their FAFSA Submission Summary (must demonstrate Pell Grant eligibility)
- Submit a CIEE Scholarships and Grants application by October 15 (spring programs) or by April 1 (fall programs)
GAIN Scholars Grant funding is limited. To maximize your chances of receiving an award, submit your current FAFSA Submission Summary verifying your Pell Grant eligibility as soon as possible.
Note: GAIN Scholars Grant decisions are announced in early November for spring programs and mid-April for fall programs. This timeline allows for the most effective distribution of available funding after the Scholarships & Grants Deadlines of October 15 (spring programs) and April 1 (fall programs).
GAIN Travel Grant
Semester/Quarter Programs: Up to $1,500 toward airfare
Summer, Single Block, and January Term Programs: $500 toward airfare

Students with an SAI of 10,000 or less are guaranteed a GAIN Travel Grant if they meet the criteria above.
Note: Students with an SAI higher than 10,000 are still encouraged to apply. Consideration of these students will depend on whether funding is still available after the deadlines listed above. The GAIN Grant is a credit with our partner travel agency for airfare only and has no cash value. If your institution covers your flights, you are not eligible for a GAIN Travel Grant.
