Overview

Your CIEE Summer Global Internship program in Osaka emphasizes hands‑on professional experience in one of Japan’s most dynamic and globally connected cities. This program features two key components: A full-time internship with an international organization (approximately 30-40 hours per week) and an internship seminar. Alongside your internship, you’ll take part in co‑curricular and extracurricular activities designed to help you engage with Osaka beyond the workplace like exploring the neon-lit streets of Dotonbori, visiting Osaka Castle and its surrounding park, and taking day trips to nearby Kyoto to experience traditional temples and shrines. Living and learning in Osaka offers a unique balance of innovation and tradition, giving you a deeper understanding of both professional life and everyday culture in Japan.

  • Step back in time at Kyoto’s iconic temples and shrines, including visits to Kiyomizu-dera, Fushimi Inari Taisha, and the historic Gion district to experience Japan’s cultural heritage firsthand 
  • Discover the ancient capital of Nara by exploring Todai-ji Temple, meeting the famous freely roaming deer in Nara Park, and learning about Japan’s earliest history

To help you budget, keep in mind that students are responsible for the cost of international airfare, local transportation, books and supplies, visas, and personal expenses. In addition, your college or university may charge additional fees for study abroad, or may require you to receive a transcript via CIEE's School of Record, which carries an additional fee of $500.

Program Fees

CIEE offers the most student support of any provider in its program fee, including an airport greeting, full-time leadership and support, orientation, cultural activities, local excursions, pre-departure advising, and CIEE iNext travel protection with benefits.

Financial Aid

CIEE offers the most grants and scholarships of any study abroad organization, including $8 million/year in travel grants, merit-based scholarships, institutional grants, and Gilman Go Global Grants.
