Rome is simply a one-of-a-kind destination. Once the center of Western civilization, and with a history spanning over 2,500 years, Rome houses some of the world’s most-visited attractions. It also includes Vatican City, an independent country within Rome’s boundaries.

As long as the local health and safety regulations permit, students could stay in:
Apartments: Live only steps away from the most famous sites in Rome! You’ll share an apartment with other CIEE students in a historic building in Prati or Trastevere, safe, residential neighborhoods surrounded by quaint markets, shops, restaurants, and public transportation. -

Academics

Students choose one, two, or three 4-week sessions and focus on the culture and history of Rome. Students can also enroll in an optional Communicative Italian Language course taught in Italian (1 credit) during a single session. In-class work is augmented with co-curricular visits to the city’s rich variety of cultural institutions and organizations relevant to the course offerings.
CIEE Global Institute – Rome is located in Rome’s historic center, within walking distance from the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Navona Square, and Campo de’ Fiori neighborhood, right in the heart of Rome.

All students must enroll in one 3-credit CIEE course per session

Total credit: 3-4 U.S. semester/4.5-6 quarter credits per session

- CIEE Communicative Language course: 1 U.S. semester/1.5 quarter credits; 15 contact hours

Academic Culture
Classes meet several times a week, and co-curricular excursions and events are integrated within the coursework to complement what you’re learning. Each four-week course is a full semester in content, so the pace is accelerated and the workload demanding. CIEE courses are designed to follow U.S. academic culture and standards. To avoid falling behind, students should not plan personal travel out of Rome when classes are in session.
Class Format
Courses taught at the CIEE Global Institute are for CIEE students. Teaching methods vary by course but generally include lectures, discussions, individual and group projects, as well as excursions in and around Rome. Classes are scheduled Monday-Friday and attendance is strictly enforced both for classes and required co-curricular excursions.
Grading
Students are graded based on a combination of participation, homework, written assignments, individual project work, presentations, and midterm/final examinations. Participation and punctuality in all classes weigh heavily in student evaluations.
