Spend January immersed in Danish culture and earning credits exploring gender and sexuality through gender-themed contemporary artistic productions. Coursework is taught in English at the CIEE Global Institute – Copenhagen and complemented with immersive co-curricular activities designed to increase intercultural understanding.

The capital city has a population of approximately two million in the metropolitan area, with a cosmopolitan city atmosphere, and rich cultural offerings. Copenhagen is known for being an environmentally friendly city where cars share the streets with bicycle commuters. The public transportation system is efficient, clean, and easily accessible - consisting of buses, trains, metro lines, and ferries. The Metro brings passengers from the Kastrup International Airport to the city center in twenty minutes. Crime is low in Copenhagen and it remains one of the safest capital cities in Europe.

- Tours of the National Museum of Denmark to explore Copenhagen’s transformation from a Viking fishing village founded in the 10th century to a world-leader in sustainability and innovation.

Hostel: Located in a busy downtown part of the city, a 15-minute walk from the Global Institute. The rooms offer private and comfortable bunks, and each room has a private bathroom. Students will have access to a shared kitchen, study area, screening rooms, laundry facilities, a gym and indoor pool, as well as a large lounge, bar and café area. The rooms are cleaned every 4 days. Final housing assignments are solely at the discretion of CIEE.
Meals are not included. Students prepare their own meals in shared kitchen facilities. CIEE provides basic cooking utensils and cleaning supplies. Students also may explore the myriad restaurants in the neighborhood.

What you need to knowThe program details
January in Copenhagen explores Danish culture and society through a focus on gender and sexuality. Students take the required course, Gender and Sexuality, and take part in theme-related excursions to the city’s rich variety of cultural institutions.
CIEE Global Institute – Copenhagen is located in the city center and features modern classrooms, a student lounge and space for cultural and academic events. Students enjoy easy access to nearby shops, restaurants, and public transportation.
