Housing & Meals
Housing
CIEE São Paulo offers a range of housing options to ensure that you feel comfortable in your home away from home. From homestays to individual rooms in residence halls, we strive to meet your accommodation preferences. All options are in neighborhoods with access to public transportation, shops, cafés, and essential services.
Standard Housing
Includes accommodation in a homestay or an individual room in a residence hall.
Homestays: In homestays, students live with a Brazilian host family and experience the local language, culture, and daily life. Each student has a single room, and the home’s bathroom and common areas are shared with the host family. Homestay placements are located up to 60 minutes from the CIEE Center. Breakfast and dinner are included; meals may be prepared by the host family or, in some cases, by the student, depending on the household routine.
Residence Halls: Individual rooms with a private bathroom, fully furnished and equipped with a mini fridge, Wi-Fi, and air conditioning. Students share laundry facilities, study areas, and leisure spaces within the building. All utilities are included, and 24/7 security with on-site support ensures a safe and comfortable environment. Residences are located in the Paulista and Jardins areas, both averaging about a 25-minute walk from the CIEE office.
Select Housing includes rooms offering additional independence with an integrated kitchenette. Each unit is fully furnished and includes a private bathroom, mini fridge, microwave, cooktop, Wi-Fi, and air conditioning. Students also have access to shared laundry facilities, study areas, and common spaces. All utilities are included, with 24/7 security and on-site support. Residences in Paulista and Jardins are both about a 25-minute walk from the CIEE office.
Select Plus Housing is available exclusively in the Paulista residence, this option offers a more spacious room with a separate kitchenette area, providing a distinct cooking space apart from the bedroom. Each unit is fully furnished and equipped with a private bathroom, mini fridge, cooktop, microwave, Wi-Fi, and air conditioning. Students also enjoy access to laundry, study, and leisure facilities. All utilities are included, with 24/7 security and on-site support for added comfort and safety. The Paulista residence is approximately a 25-minute walk from the CIEE office.
A note: The default criterion to assign housing is first-come, first-served; however, other factors may also be considered. If we cannot accommodate your first housing choice, we'll let you know before you arrive. Non-standard housing options require an additional fee that can be found in the program Dates and Fees.
Meals
- Homestays: Breakfast and dinner are included. Meals may be prepared bythe host family or, depending on household arrangements, by the student.
- Residence Halls: Meals are not included in any of the housing categories.
Transportation
Commute times in São Paulo can vary considerably. Although distances may appear short in kilometers or miles, heavy traffic and the scale of the city mean that travel by public transportation can take significantly longer than expected.
Students choosing a homestay should be aware that placements may be up to 60 minutes from the CIEE Center, and commuting time can vary depending on the time of day, traffic conditions, and transit connections. Residence halls in Paulista and Jardins are within walking distance—about 25 minutes on average, to CIEE Center—offering a more predictable daily route.
