Why Studying Abroad in Seville Was the Best Decision I Ever Made
By: Tatia Goldberg
My CIEE abroad experience is something that I would never change. I felt so acclimated and comfortable with the city and the culture. Transportation was extremely accessible and I felt very safe around the city. The food was amazing and very affordable. I found myself cooking a lot as groceries were very accessible. I have celiac, which means that I’m gluten free, and it was not hard for me to fit these needs here. The city, as a whole, was also very affordable. I even had to see some specialists and get medical scans, and the program got me appointments and translators.
It was very easy to fly around Europe from Seville and even to Africa (Morocco). Almost every weekend I traveled to a new country, and I am very fortunate that I got to experience and learn a lot. There are also buses and trains that take you to other cities and countries. The airport was around 15 minutes from my dorm and very easy to navigate. There were also a multitude of direct flights. Around 3/4 of the city speaks English, so it was very easy to practice my Spanish and I definitely improved my skills. My classes were small and engaging, and I definitely learned a lot.
I highly recommend the Psychology and Health Sciences program if you are pre-med or interested in Public Health. CIEE offered free events like wine tours, tapa tours, tours of the Cathedral, day and night trips, and more. We got hotel accommodations and most meals during the day and night trips. We also were able to learn a lot about the cities that we went to. In addition, the staff really wanted to hear feedback from the students and they really cared about the well-being of the students. I loved Sevilla because it was a perfect combination of nightlife and a cultural experience. The people that I met were all so lovely and friendly, and they were from all over the country and world.
If I were to do my abroad experience again, I would definitely choose Sevilla.
