Studying Abroad in Madrid: One of the Best Experiences
By: Oliver Morgens
CIEE Madrid has been one of the best experiences I have had so far. I have met so many wonderful people both through the program and locals. I took CIEE’s culture and Cuisine class which introduced me to a variety of dishes and drinks. We made Pincho de Tortilla and Paella as well as a type of sangria, all of which turned out wonderfully. We also visited classic restaurants, bars, and taverns in order to get a strong feel for the culture around gastronomy in Madrid.
This program also provide opportunities to explore the surrounding town and cities like segovia, avila, and toledo. All of those cities and town have beautiful architecture. Avila is famous for its massive fortress wall around the city. It is truly massive in scale and must be appreciated in person. Segovia has an absolutely beautiful castle that I was fortunate enough to tour. It is said that Walt Disney took inspiration from this castle when designing the one at Disney World, which was super amazing to experience. Toledo also has a palace and grand cathedral. The cathedral’s gothic style is truly amazing and it is size evokes a feeling of wonder. Again, this must be experienced in person.
CIEE has offered me a wonderful experience that I will never forget.
