Study Abroad as an International Student
By: Isabella Pereira
You might be wondering, I am already studying abroad in the United States, I don’t need to go abroad… you might be missing out on one of the coolest adventures of your life!
Let me give you some background, I am from Venezuela but I migrated to Chile to finish high school. After that, I moved to the United States to pursue my undergraduate degree, a lot of changes, I know. Despite this, I was eager to meet more people, and meet more parts of the world, and so can you!
One of the advantages of going abroad as an international student is, that you are already open-minded, there is no obstacle you can’t beat. Yes there are going to be some things you might need to get used to, but that is easy cake, you have done it before can do it now right?
Second, think about all the people you will meet, I have made so many amazing relationships while being abroad that I would not have been able to make if I had not come. Especially people who came from schools I did not even know existed. It's all about learning from other people and having fun!
At the same time, you will go on SO MANY TRIPS. I traveled through Europe quite a lot and loved every bit of it. I went to countries I had never thought I would go to and also went with people who were strangers at the beginning and now we are inseparable. Nothing beats tanning on the beach with your new friends or getting lost in a city and laughing about it while eating ice cream.
Also, something I liked was being able to take classes that my college did not offer. For example, you can take Czech Photography and learn a new skill while exploring Prague. Or taking Czech and learning the basics of a new language so you can order ham at the supermarket. The Czech Republic has a rich history that only you can uncover by coming here.
There are so many advantages to going abroad as an international student, but the biggest one is learning about yourself for yourself. Navigating the unknown is scary but regretting not having done something is worse.
What are you waiting for?
