My Favorite Concert Experience
Well, hello again!
I am back with another music blog!
In this one, I want to talk about one of my favorite memories from Korea. If you've read my other blog, The Underground Music Scene in Seoul, you have probably seen the photos of various artists, and one of those groups I've come to enjoy is called Sun&Mer. Back in early May, they announced that they would be having their first solo concert with a company called Monday Project, which aims to help others discover new up-and-coming artists.
I went to this event after struggling for a week to reserve a seat. I got there a bit early, so I got to see the venue before most arrived. While small, it felt more cozy and welcoming, and they gave out a lot of freebies like banners, funny band advertisements, and photo-cards. The small venue made it feel like a friend gathering rather than a concert. This was a huge opportunity for me to practice Korean, as the band talked a lot in between their songs. I was so focused on trying to translate their Korean in my head that I even missed a few moments where they were asking me questions. They did a few games for signed CD's, and I won one (once I realized they were asking me where I was from). At one point, a lot of people even cried a bit too- the whole concert was endearing. Afterwards, we got to talk with the band members and get signatures or pictures, and we even celebrated the release of their new single and their first solo concert! I got to practice speaking more Korean, and we had some simple conversations about home and music.
I highly recommend going to one of these small projects. I think it's something different from arena shows and is unique to Korea in terms of setup and overall experience.
