Interning in Melbourne
Summer 2025 intern Cohen, from Husson University Maine, shares his experience of interning for 8 weeks in Melbourne Australia
“My internship experience at Southern Cross University in Melbourne Australia was exceptional. Not only did it teach me a lot about expectations in workplaces and the importance of a workplace culture, but most importantly it showed me what I want to see myself doing in the future!"
I learned a lot about myself. Being an intern broadened my knowledge on what to expect at my future places of employment and how I should be treated as an employee.
I was given several different projects to work on allowing me to gain a broader insight towards the Australian education industry. Being able to meet with a diverse group of education agents allowed me to speak with people from a range of different cultures and allowed me to gain an understanding at how people from various backgrounds conducted business and meetings. As a young professional but also an American working in Australia, this experience has certainly strengthened my interest towards working internationally.
I had the privilege of working with a wonderful group of talented individuals at my internship that not only nurtured me in terms of my learning but also made me feel like I belonged. Their respect and kindness made me fall in love with the working culture in Australia and specifically Melbourne! I’m truly grateful for this opportunity!
