Hermosa Guanajuato by Claudia Canfield

When I made my decision to spend the spring semester of 2017 studying in Guanajuato Mexico I was thinking about how well the course offerings would transfer to my home university and how interesting they all sounded. After living here for eleven weeks I can say that the classes are definitely not the only interesting parts of my days.

I usually wake up in a hurry to catch the pesero (bus) to my sculpture class on a part of the University of Guanajuato campus that is perched on a hill with a beautiful view.

Amazing views like this are around every corner in this city; the bright colors of the houses make the hills come alive on days with clear blue skies. Some of my favorite sights are just the occasional calm moment in the street. I was lucky enough to snap a picture of this one on my phone when I was walking down Calle Positos between the central university building and the CIEE building.

I live with a host family in the neighborhood named after the Presa de la Olla which has a couple beautiful parks that are my favorite places to go when I need a break from the bustling center. Sunday afternoons in the Presa are filled with family picnics, boat rides on the pond, and all the food any heart could desire. My favorite time to be there is in the evening to see the spectacular sunsets.

I have had amazing opportunities since being in this city to see and experience so much beauty and I am immensely looking forward to what the second half of my time in this incredible country and hermosa Guanajuato have to offer.
