One of the most important travel experiences for any new foodie is the meals. In the department of food culture, Seoul definitely has no shortage of amazing foods. My favorite aspect of the food culture in Seoul is that it's group-based. Each meal seems to create this friendly atmosphere where acquaintances can become lifelong friends. Because of this atmosphere, I have been able to create so many unforgettable memories with my friends.

One of the best parts of the foodie culture is ordering in Korean. Before coming here I was very nervous about speaking in Korean. I felt that I wasn't good enough and was most of the time I was too embarrassed to even try. What I discovered is that everyone here wants me to improve. Even if I mess up my Korean it's just an opportunity to learn and improve. It has already been a week since I left quarantine, and I feel that I have been able to gain a huge amount of confidence in my speaking skills because of the safe environment.

Even though it's only the beginning of my journey I have been able to have so many amazing meals and consistently learn something new. Out of everything I have tried so far, I would have to say my favorite meal has been Korean BBQ. I love the atmosphere it creates with friends, and it really is the best way to relax after a long day of studying or traveling. Korean BBQ is probably one of the most popular meals here and is extremely popular on a Friday or Saturday night. Before coming to South Korea I had Korean BBQ a lot in America. However, the first thing I noticed when I went to a Korean BBQ restaurant was that the atmosphere is completely different. I can't describe the difference, but Korean BBQ paired with the lively night of Seoul makes the ambiance more electric. I think it is just something you will have to try yourself.
