The 60-hour course is self-paced and designed to allow you to complete coursework at any time during a six-month period. Students work independently, attending online presentations and complete online readings. This means you can work whenever you’d like, and wherever you like — whether that’s early in the morning, late at night, in a coffee shop, at home, or wherever you feel most inspired.

Module 0) Pre-course – intro to course and how to navigate
Virtually meet your peers, get comfortable with the online Canvas platform, and prepare yourself for what’s to come.
Module 1) The world of TEFL
Why learn English? A look at the types of English learners and an introduction to fundamental concepts from the intercultural field.
Module 2) Key approaches and methods
Cover different language teaching methodologies and approaches to communication. Understand cultural differences in teaching language, classroom organization, and feedback.
Module 3) Teaching vocabulary and grammar
Learn to teach grammar and vocabulary effectively by breaking it down and covering new strategies.

Module 4) Planning lessons
Go over the key elements of a lesson such as classroom activities, warm-ups, fillers and cool-downs.
Module 5) Teaching skills
Introduce receptive skills and ways to teach reading. Learn methods for teaching listening and speaking the language and then move on to methods of teaching writing.
Module 6) TEFL and you
Develop an intercultural mindset in the field of language education and discover effective ways to tackle your first week in the classroom.

A deep dive into the study of grammar. This section is not required but serves as a helpful review.
Module 1) Grammar study 1
Unpack parts of speech, sentence structure and explaining parts of speech such as verbs.
Module 2) Grammar study 2
Review verb tenses and conditional forms.
Module 3) Grammar study 3
An overview of parts of grammar including voice and mood. Learn to explain pronouns, phrases and clauses.

Language ability: Participants in the course must be native English speakers or maintain an advanced level of English proficiency. To demonstrate such proficiency for nonnative speakers of English, the following scores are accepted: CEFR C1, CAE, BEC +, PTE level 4, TOEFL iBT 110-120, IELTS 7-8, TOEIC L&R = 945 & S&W = 360.
Enrollees must be at least 18 years of age or older
Coursework requires reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills. Course outcome and evaluation will include elements of all four competencies.
Students must be capable of using a personal computer, as all coursework is completed online. Students must have consistent access to internet.

The 60-hour course can be started and completed at your own pace; however, it must be completed within 6 months. If at any point you choose to upgrade to the 150- Hour Flagship course, there are a few timelines to keep in mind:
Teach abroad: Begin your TEFL course at least 6 months prior to your intended departure date
Teaching at home or online: Begin your TEFL course at least 3 months before you apply for a position

All course content is online so if you have a computer with access to the internet you are good to go.
Will I be TEFL certified after 60 hours?Click to Open
Short answer: yes.
Upon completion, you will receive a certificate for completing your 60-hour certification. However, the international standard for teaching abroad requires at least 100 hours of training with practicum included. If you wish to add practicum later to meet the 100-hour standard, schedule an appointment with your TEFL coordinator to discuss your options.
