Chile is an exciting destination for those who love the outdoors. You can ski in the Andes east of Santiago or eat seafood in a beachfront café in Viña del Mar before dipping your toes in warm, white sand. Those with a sense of adventure can use their time off to travel, exploring places like the starkly beautiful Atacama Desert, the mysterious stone idols of Easter Island, or the glaciers far to the south.
Teachers will work with a well-regarded language training organization to offer online virtual classes for corporate companies teaching Business English. Hours will vary between 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with an average workload of 15-20 hours a week. Lesson plan material is provided by the language training organization, but teachers are encouraged to be creative and flexible when planning sessions to meet the needs of each individual student. Because teachers will be leading classes remotely, this position offers the flexibility to work anywhere in Chile.
Typical contracts are from March to December and teachers are able to complete freelance teaching assignments from December to March. Any teachers joining mid-year will have their first contract completed in December. If both the teacher and organization are satisfied, all teachers can renew their contracts for another year.
Teachers earn a minimum monthly salary of 625,000 CLP (approx. $880) with additional pay depending on available assignments. Teachers should expect a monthly retention of 11.5% for taxes on each paycheck. The minimum salary is enough to support your basic living expenses after you arrive. Because you will be leading classes online, you’ll gain valuable savings by not needing to utilize public transportation daily.
Teachers will work with businesses throughout the Santiago area providing online virtual lessons on Business English. There will be curriculum provided for teachers, but they are encouraged to be creative in their lesson planning.
Teachers can expect to work an average of 15-20 hours per week. There are opportunities to work more than 20 hours, depending on available class schedules, in which case teachers will see an increase in salary. Because teachers are working with area businesses, class sessions will vary between 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The teacher coordinator at the training organization will help to create an ideal schedule, but flexibility is key. All classes are held virtually through online sessions.
There are a few simple requirements. These, plus a sense of adventure and a desire to cross cultural boundaries and engage with people eager to learn English, will make you a great candidate.
