Welcome to Dublin, where Ireland’s rich golf tradition comes to life.
Ireland takes its golf seriously, and Dublin puts you right in the middle of the action. County Dublin alone boasts more than 30 courses, including legendary coastal links where golfers battle rolling dunes, deep bunkers, sea breezes, and famously unpredictable Irish weather.
The wild island beauty extends into Dublin proper, where the 1,750-acre Phoenix Park sits, home to wild fallow deer and the residence of Ireland’s president. This storied landscape has inspired generations of Irish writers, including James Joyce, Oscar Wilde, W.B. Yeats, and Samuel Beckett, helping Dublin earn its reputation as one of the world’s great literary cities.
Don’t forget the food, either! Try Dublin “coddle,” a local comfort food traditionally made with sausages, potatoes, onions, and bacon, or warm Irish soda bread slathered with butter. Grab fish and chips, a hearty bowl of seafood chowder, or a flaky sausage roll before checking out Dublin’s modern cafés and bakeries. With its unique courses and welcoming locals, Dublin offers an unforgettable summer abroad.

Day Trip to Howth
Escape the city for Howth, a seaside fishing village that feels worlds away from Dublin despite being just a 30-minute train ride from the city center. Walk along the harbor, watching resident seals poke their heads above the water between colorful fishing boats, before heading toward Howth Head for a hike.
Walk part of the 44-kilometer (27-mile) Dublin Coastal Trail, which connects 16 scenic stops along Dublin Bay, and follow paths through purple heather and bright yellow gorse. Keep an eye on the cliffs for seabirds like guillemots, razorbills, and fulmars as waves crash against the rocks below.
Howth’s history is just as colorful as its landscape. Its name has Viking roots, and the peninsula appears throughout ancient Irish mythology. According to local legend, 16th-century “Pirate Queen” Grace O’Malley once kidnapped the heir of Howth Castle after being refused entry for dinner, and returned him only after the family promised never to turn away an unexpected guest again!
Glendalough Day Trip
Journey into County Wicklow to explore Glendalough, a dramatic glacial valley whose Irish name means “valley of two lakes.” In the 6th century, St. Kevin came here seeking solitude, but his retreat eventually grew into one of Early Christian Ireland’s most important monastic centers, drawing monks and scholars for centuries. Wander among ancient stone churches and graveyards, stand beneath the nearly 1,000-year-old round tower, and look across the Upper Lake toward St. Kevin’s Bed, a tiny cave where legend says the monk lived in solitude.
The site is nestled inside Wicklow Mountains National Park, the largest national park on the island of Ireland, spanning nearly 23,000 hectares (57,000 acres). Follow trails through heather-covered hills and forests, past rushing streams and lakes carved by ancient glaciers. Keep watch for wild goats, foxes, pine martens (a tiny mammal belonging to the weasel family), and the park’s large population of red-Sika deer. It’s easy to see why this spectacular region is nicknamed the “Garden of Ireland.”
