Overview
Craft compelling narratives and collaborate on a drama script on an epic adventure through Greece and Italy.

Develop your tone of voice and storytelling skills in two of Europe's legendary cities. Start in Athens, the birthplace of drama and theatre. Then, head to Rome, whose mythical founding by twins Romulus and Remus makes walking its streets feel like stepping into a living legend. Collaborate with other Global Navigators to write and perform a drama script—either live or as a short film.

Explore literary genres in expert-led classes as you read famous Greek and Roman works. Sharpen your storytelling abilities. Experience important landmarks like the Acropolis and the Colosseum, featured in iconic literature and gain new perspectives through connections with local teens.

Venture beyond the bustling city streets to Nafplio, a coastal town filled with castles and archaeological sites, and to Florence, where world-famous artists and writers have shaped history. Your journey through Athens and Rome will ignite your creativity and immerse you in the rich literary and cultural heritage of Southern Europe.

Academic Merit Award Available

The Destination

Welcome to Athens and Rome, two impressive capitals on the Mediterranean Sea.

Home to over 3,000 years of history, the mythic traditions, classic works of literature and revolutionary artistic movements of Greece and Rome have long left their mark on Western culture. Here, the birthplaces of famous writers like Homer, the author of the Odyssey, and Ovid, the poet behind Metamorphoses, sets the scene for your creative writing journey.

In these cities, architectural wonders and historic ruins wait at every turn. Take in sprawling views of Athens from the famed Acropolis and Parthenon, two icons that stand in contrast to the modern metropolis below. In Rome, grand landmarks like the Colosseum and the Roman Forum are stark reminders of a once prolific empire. While immersed in it all, enjoy local dishes like gyros and baklava as well as homemade pasta and gelato.

Your time in Southern Europe immersed in a new culture will help you gain a deeper connection to the past and spark your imagination for stories to come.
