Allons-y!
Destination: Rennes, France. Rennes is famous for its patrimoine, its gallettes, and its beurre salé. It's home to a people who are proud of their celtic heritage and Breton cultural identity. It's the regional capital of Brittany, which is located in the northwest corner for France.
On Saturday, July 9, 48 students from across the country met their Program Leaders in either Los Angeles or New York. Others chose to take the adventure of flying solo.
For many students, it was a long day of travel complete with connections and layovers. Prior to our departure, we had time to get aquainted with one another and play a few hands of Uno. There was an immediate bond among the students. Even though we spent the majority of Saturday and Sunday in the air, the excitement for the adventures that awaited the students outweighed the fatigue. The students were met by their host families at the Rennes airport and spent the evening getting aquainted with their host families.
Today, the program officially began. As is the practice, the students were given a complete overview of the program, its expectations, etc. We had an incredible lunch at a local restaurant. Upon our return to campus, the students met the teachers and conducted their final language assessment: an interview with their teachers. Tomorrow morning, our students will officially begin the program. They will attend French classes that aligned to their proficiency level in the morning. During the afternoon, they will participate in a variety of cultural activities that support what they are learning in their classes.
