Enjoy an intercultural learning experience while improving your Spanish language skills through customized and goal oriented hands-on fun activities. Throughout your stay, practice speaking Spanish in shops, markets, and cafes. You’ll also explore the city with tours led by CIEE staff and local professors. Need some extra assistance with your Spanish language skills? We’ll have local students ready to help.

Enjoy your favorite tapas during nights out with new friends; dance the flamenco during a cultural class or spend a morning touring castles, churches, cathedrals, and other architectural gems; stroll along the scenic Guadalquivir River or relax along the banks while taking in the local rowing culture. Mingle with peers and meet Spanish high school students through organized activities.

You’ll also spend quality time with your homestay, practicing your Spanish as you prepare and share meals, shop at local markets, learn local customs, and enjoy everyday family life in a different country, far from home.

The Take-Aways

Call Seville home for 4 weeks and come back with increased language proficiency and a greater understanding of the Spanish way of life. Bring home life stories to remember your cultural experiences. Demonstrate your language growth through a test before and after your program. On average across our programs, students learn in four weeks what U.S. high school students learn in one year.

Earn 4 college credits to either apply toward your future college degree, or to use to demonstrate your ability to do college-level work, or test out of a language level in college!

After just 4 weeks away, you'll build self-confidence, gain a broader world view, improve your interpersonal communication skills and make lifelong friends from all across the U.S.

Seville, the fourth largest city in Spain, is the capital city of Andalusia. Known for its hot summers, Gothic and Renaissance architecture, fabulous food and flamenco rhythms, it never fails toamaze!

Integrate into the vibrant epicenter of culture, in Spain’s beautiful Andalusian region. Seville is home to three UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It is rich in cultural history. Surprisingly, it manages to preserve its past while offering all the conveniences of a modern commercial city.   Its Cathedral, the largest Gothic cathedral in the world and where the remains of Christopher Columbus rest today, shares prominence with the most modern cultural buildings built in recent times. Seville has also been the scene of films and famous series as Game of Thrones, Star Wars, or the Kingdom of Heaven.   It is also known for being easy to navigate. You can stroll down cobblestone alleys, poke your head into local shops, and enjoy a slow, laid-back pace during your time here. Seville is known for being livable and fun without feeling overwhelming.

CIEE wants all our students to feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to succeed while studying abroad. Local CIEE staff have provided details about conditions and cultural attitudes that students with specific identities might encounter in Seville.

Daily Life

Every day brings new discoveries and fun, but you can always count on a perfect balance between interactive instruction, excursions and free time! Here's what to expect on a typical day:

  • 7:00 am: Get up and have breakfast at your homestay
  • 8:00 am: Commute to CIEE to meet your group, using public transportation or taking a nice walk. Most locals walk everywhere! Seville is a beautiful and safe town to walk.
  • 9:00 am - 12:00 pm: Interactive language class in small groups with a local teacher
  • 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm: Practice in the streets what you learned in class, through short activities and challenges led by your program leader in small groups
  • 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm: Head home for lunch at your homestay. Sharing a meal with your host family is a sign of respect. Spanish families value their meal times together. This is a great opportunity to practice your Spanish! Escape the heat, take a traditional “siesta”, or enjoy some free time with your friends.
  • 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm: Cultural activity
  • 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm: Recount your day at dinner and try to use your new vocabulary!
  • 9:00 pm - 10:00 pm: Wrap up your day with jotting down some notes in your reflection journal and get your homework done before the next day. Usually just readings and personal research for your weekly project.
  • 10:00 pm: Lights out!
