Overview
Capture contrast, chase golden hour, and tell a visual story that spans two countries: New Zealand and Australia.

Explore the art and craft of visual storytelling across two incredible global cities and the world-class nature in their backyards. Whether you're using a DSLR or your phone, you’ll build digital photography skills as you capture the textures, colors, and culture of Australia and New Zealand alongside teens who share your passion for photography.

Start in Auckland, where black sand beaches, volcanic peaks, and Māori art traditions shape every shot. Then hop to Sydney to explore light-filled harbors, rainforest hikes, and the iconic skyline. Through hands-on workshops, guided photo walks, and professional critiques, you’ll master composition, lighting, and editing and reflect on the ethics of visual storytelling. You’ll wrap it all up with a final gallery show, where you’ll curate five powerful images and present them alongside an artist’s statement.

Beyond the cities, you’ll explore the stunning natural landscapes of Oceania. In New Zealand, capture the dramatic waterfalls and crystal-clear lake views around Taupō. In Australia, head to Newcastle and the Blue Mountains to photograph eucalyptus forests. Return home with an impressive portfolio you can use for college applications and a deeper understanding of your creative style.

The Destination

Welcome to Auckland and Sydney—two coastal cities where vibrant cultures create the perfect backdrop for visual storytelling.

Ferry to secret island beaches, savor bold flavors inspired by Māori, Pasifika, and Asian traditions, and capture everything from the sharp black lines of traditional tattoos to bold-colored sunsets..

In Auckland, volcanic peaks rise between neighborhoods filled with street art, farmers’ markets, and food stalls serving classic Kiwi meat pies. Māori culture is woven into daily life—from language and ancient carvings to modern architecture. Spend your days chasing golden light along black sand beaches, then hang with friends over fizzy L&P (a local lemony soda) and late-night snacks like hot chips and steamed buns.

Across the Tasman Sea, Sydney is a young, outdoor-loving city where urban life meets the sea. Its skyline wraps around a glittering harbor anchored by the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. In Newtown and Surry Hills, you’ll find bold murals, live music, and street food scenes all their own. Surf Bondi, swim in rock pools, or hike rainforest trails—then capture it all through your lens.
