Day 1 in the Algarve! By Annalisa
Our day started off with a long drive to the southern region of Portugal called Algarve. We arrived in Lagos and jumped right into our Survival Portuguese class. We walked around the city and interacted with shop owners. We learned that the Moorish walls were built to protect the city from the Spanish coming by sea. We learned how the main industry of Lagos went from fishing to becoming the vacation spot it is today. We ended the class by getting a yummy treat. With our knowledge of Portuguese, we ordered gelato in the native language. We then were free to explore the area until dinner. Penelopi and I took pictures of the town while we went in and out of stores shopping for gifts. We took in all the views we could. Some people even got a second serving of gelato! At dinner, we took up half of the room at the restaurant! To end the meal, we sang Happy Birthday to Jackson in English and Portuguese. We then headed back to the hostel to rest up for our action packed day on Sunday.
