Overview
Level up your love of gaming in Auckland, gaining real-world engineering skills and developing your own video game prototype!

Forget the idea of studying video games in a dark room behind a screen. his program blends classroom learning and hands-on experiences in the heart of New Zealand’s booming indie game scene. In Auckland, you’ll spend the summer discovering storyboarding, coding, and animation. With your Global Navigator friends who are just as passionate about gaming as you are, you’ll put your new skills to work developing a video game prototype inspired by your adventures.

You’ll explore the fundamentals of computer engineering and game development, from building game logic to designing characters and environments. Meet professional designers and engineers, visit tech hubs and gaming studios like Grinding Gear Games, and discover how Māori mythic storytelling and New Zealand’s stunning natural settings inspire both blockbuster films and the country’s top games.

You’ll have plenty of time to experience Auckland’s vibrant neighborhoods, coastal parks, and Kiwi culture. Your time in Auckland will grow your creativity, build valuable tech skills, and help shape your future career.

The Destination

Welcome to Auckland, where stunning landscapes and cutting-edge creativity collide.

Auckland has long been a launchpad for bold ideas in technology and design. From the visual effects masterminds at Wētā Workshop, the studio behind Lord of the Rings, to thriving engineering, robotics, and AI innovation labs, this is a city where creative energy meets technical skill. The city’s location between volcanic peaks and the sea has shaped everything from innovative architecture to world-famous marine engineering.

As you explore, fuel up on classic Kiwi fish and chips or the country’s famous hokey pokey ice cream (vanilla ice cream with crunchy honeycomb toffee pieces mixed in). Explore nearby black-sand beaches and take in views from the 50 ancient volcanic cones surrounding Auckland.

Whether it’s the fast pace of rugby, the thrill of racing on land or sea, or the magic of fantasy worlds, New Zealand offers inspiration for every type of game designer.
