Weekend Trip to Granada!
We are currently traveling two and a half hours by bus back to Sevilla from Granada, and what a weekend it has been. We were treated like kings and queens, staying in a beautiful hotel and eating amazing meals in its restaurant. We were so lucky to meet two more extraordinary CIEE guides, Alejandro and Angel. They provided personalized tours of Granada's city center, the palace "the Alhambra" where the Reyes Cristianos finalized their conquista of the Muslim calafate in Spain, as well as the Capilla Real where Isabela and Ferdinand are entombed. We veiwed her crown, sceptor and personal Bible, his ceremonial sword, and selected Gothic artwork from their personal collection. Granada is a beautiful, small city. Modern, yet still holding on to aspects of the old world. This weekend being part of Corpus Christi, the streets were even more filled with markets, artists, music and life. Most of us went to authentic tapas bars to eat where complimentary hors d'oeuvres are served with the order of a beverage, such as a soft drink, tea or coffee. One of my favorite activities with my small group was conducting an interview of a ceramics artist from Talavera, España. We had all prepared questions in advance and the students asked Señor Acosta about his training and influences. I am amazed at how comfortable these students are becoming with communication in Spanish. I can't wait to see more pictures from the rest of the group.
