La Cerámica y El Azulejo
Our team met up early this morning and walked to a historic area known for its ceramic pottery and tile workshops. An artist described the history of their multi-generation, family operated workshop, the effect of the recent spanish economic crises on the closing of similar historical shops in the area, and of course, the process of creating such a wide variety of traditional artwork. Each of us painted our own ceramic tile using a traditional pattern and technique. It was really fun and I think we all realized that the techniques are a lot more difficult than they appear. Especially in this dry, hot climate. I'd say by the smiles on the faces and the final products that we made, it was a very satisfying activity. We can't wait to pick up our tiles tomorrow after they've been baked in the kiln!
