Fresh Perspective on a Farm
In Normandy, we visited a "biologique" organic farm. The head farmer happily gave us a tour of the facility, friendly animals, and some of his ethical considerations--all in French, of course!
Quand on mange, c'est grâce aux terres, aux animaux, et aux fermiers. When we eat, it's thanks to the earth, the animals, and the farmers, one student translated.
Farmer Eric shared some of his production decisions and the reason behind it, such as ceasing to stop the production of dairy products. As a group, we discussed how consumers can influence the market based upon their buying decisions, and students' opinions about how our consumption habits have a greater impact.
He also explained how he had no need to mow the lawn, thanks to his four-legged companions. Overall, we laughed and learned a lot outside of this city, across historical and natural places in Normandy. Now, back to Paris!
