First few days in Alicante, Spain!
After orientation on Monday, the students were greeted very warmly by their Spanish host families. The next day the students attended classes in the morning and in the afternoon practiced their knowledge in the community guided by their Program Leaders. The students were asked to meet people in Alicante, introduce themselves, exchange general personal information and ask what to see and do in Alicante this summer. After overcoming the initial jitters, they became more comfortable and did a great job. The next day their task was to choose a monument, buidling or historical place and then talk to people in Alicante and ask about its significance and history. In the afternoon, the students did a Yincana (Scavenger Hunt) roaming through Alicante finding information to answer the questions in their Yincana. The first to report back were the winners of the challenge. The students had a great time! On the 13th, the students had the opportunity to learn how to cook Spanish tapas. Two wondeful chefs guided the students in the creation of tortilla española, merluzito, gazpacho, and ensaladilla rusa. The end result was amazing! The students themselves were suprised at how good the tapas they made tasted.
