Oh! I’m Faith, by the way :)
After two blog posts, I figured it was time to give a (late) but proper introduction to…me.
Where Am I From?
I come from the hot and dry Phoenix, Arizona, in a small, safe, and dull town West of the big city. As grateful as I am for my upbringing, I was always left craving more. I graduated from high school in 2021, and my fear of the pandemic kept me home, but in my Junior year of college, I finally moved to Madrid for the first time to study abroad. During my five months in Spain, I discovered parts of myself that I didn’t even know existed. I improved my Spanish, became more self-sufficient, and gained a great deal of self-confidence, all while falling in love with the city.
Why Teach Abroad?
Going back home was hard. I felt myself regressing back into the person I was before I had moved. My cravings for walking in the streets, going out to dinner at 9:00 p.m., and practicing my Spanish were immediate. I knew as soon as I returned home that I was going back to Madrid the first opportunity I got…and that’s exactly what I did. After graduating in the Spring of 2025 with my Bachelor of Science in Communications (Summa Cum Laude, but what did you expect?), I was on a one-way flight back to Madrid four short months later.
For me, coming back to Madrid wasn’t just about reuniting with the romanticized version where the cobblestone streets are quaint instead of annoying, and the coffee shops are cozy instead of way too small to possibly be a functioning business. My return to the city was a choice to return to a version of myself that I dreamed of being since I was 12. The one who could speak another language and navigate public transport with ease.
Being able to teach in an environment where I was contributing just as much as I was gaining seemed like an added bonus. I love that being in a Spanish school has given me a more cultural and linguistically immersive experience that I, at times, felt I was missing out on while studying abroad. Although teaching for me is not a final destination, I knew the opportunities and skills I would gain from the experience would be invaluable, regardless of the career I pursue afterward.
What Do I Offer as a Blogger?
My dad gave me my name after he moved out of his town with nothing but $200 and Faith that God would provide the rest. Obviously, this mentality is what has guided me to live a life bigger than my imagination. After coming back home, I saw how inspiring my time away had been. It even encouraged both my mom AND older sister to travel to Europe for the first time.
I love how traveling challenges myself to pursue things that seem “too big.” Anytime I feel myself shutting down a desire, I always ask, “why not?” My hope is that by writing about my experiences and perspective I can encourage others to push against their own limiting beliefs and truly chase after the life they want to live. Whether I’m talking about making friends in a new city or the latest restaurants I’ve been to, I pray the underlying message in all of my posts is “If I can do it, you can do it too.”
