We kicked off our final week in Seville with a ceramics class. To get to the workshop, we crossed the river into the neighborhood of Triana, an area well known for this type of art. Upon arrival, an artisan explained to us that their business has been passed down through three generations. They continue making tiles and other ceramic items in the traditional way and in the same house that was built by their great grandparents.
We learned a bit about the process of painting the tiles that we have seen all over the city, starting with using a stencil and charcoal to mark a pattern on the tiles. Then it was time to test our skills! Although we all began with the same pattern, no two tiles turned out the same. We are very excited for them to be fired so we can see the final outcome!
