Street Art in Paris
In the Belleville neighborhood of Paris, there is a fairly recent artistic movement in the streets: Street Art!
Can you see the face?
In the beginning street art really began as vandalism. Art on public buildings was illegal.
Our guide, Aurélie explained to our group that the street art is becoming more and more accepted and appreciated as a true art form. The mayor's office even has some street art commissoned and artists can apply to be chosen to do the artwork for a specific location.
Here, Aurélie explains that while most street art is created for aesthetic reasons some street art has a political purpose such as this piece here.
