This week, under the Paris sky, the students explored Montmartre, the neighborhood in the northern part of Paris famous for its rich artistic history.  Sitting atop the summit of Montmartre is the white-domed Basilique du Sacré Cœur, another well-known Parisian symbol.  Instead of a walking tour of this highly popular neighborhood, students teamed up in small groups to complete a chasse au trésor (scavenger hunt). They were tasked with finding the various sites and taking pictures at each one.

Included on the treasure hunt list were the following:

Sacré Cœur

An artist painting a portrait at the Place du Tertre (one of our students actually got her portrait done!)

Le Bateau Lavoir, a former artists' studio where Pablo Picasso lived

Le Moulin de la Galette, a former windmill that is now a café

La Maison Rose, now a restaurant that was home to many famous people including Picasso, Modigliani and later Édith Piaf, Barbara, Charles Aznavour, Jacques Brel, and Albert Camus

Le mur des Je t'aime (I love you: the wall), a monument dedicated to love where "I love you" is written in 250 languages
