Say cheese!
On Tuesday, students participated in a cheese tasting (une dégustation de fromage). The students ordered the cheese at local markets and brought it back to the CIEE center for the tasting.
As the students were eating, I asked for their reactions, favorites, least favorites, etc. Scroll to find your student's quote!
Alan - I hated trying French cheese. It just wasn't good. The texture was off and it smelled funky. I was gagging the whole time. It's not for me.
Aiwyn - The smells are deceiving. Don't judge a cheese by its smell!
Bianca - I very much enjoyed Tonnes de brebis. It was good!
Charlotte - I'm liking the soft cheeses with the soft flavors. The Rocquefort is too strong, Mimolette tastes like cheddar, and Reblochon is pretty good.
Elysse - I'm enjoying this unique aspect of French culture even though I'm a picky eater and I'm outside my comfort zone. It'll be a fun memory. That said, I hated Abondance.
Emmi - I thought it was cool!
Giselle - I liked the Brie, I hated the Mimolette.
Hannah - I didn't really like the Comté. I definitely liked the Camembert and the Brie.
Ian - It was an experience. Lots of different flavors that have never been in my mouth before. I'm speechless.
Isabel - I liked Mimolette and Rocquefort. I think I prefer hard cheeses over soft cheeses.
Ivori - I thought it was interesting. Mom and Dad, I love you!
Jaden - I didn't think it was that bad. I only disliked the creamy ones.
Jose - I liked Camembert and Rocquefort.
Julia - I liked more than I expected!
Kaylee - Of course I'm enjoying myself; I'm eating free cheese! Abondance is my favorite.
Kylie - It's really salty but so good!
Lauren - It was really nice! I can be picky so I was surprised by how many I liked.
Lily - Hi Mom! I tried the cheese but it wasn't my favorite. My mom will be happy that I at least tried it.
MacKaylee - I'm not a cheese person so I'm scared.
Maddy - I liked a lot of them!
Marlow - It's all pretty good!
Mia - I liked Mimolette because it tasted familiar. I liked getting to buy them!
Naima - Shout out to Mom and Dad! I love you!
Nate - I like the Rocquefort and Brie.
Nicolas - I like Saint Nectaire because it tastes good. It's soft, it tastes good on its own. A lot of the other ones taste pretty weird.
Nuriya - I did not enjoy it. I dislike cheese even more than I did before. If I ever see cheese outside of a sandwich I will run the other way.
Sabina - I've tried all of them! Abondance is my favorite because of its hard texture and unique flavor.
Savannah - I tried the lactose-free cheese. It was really good! I was really happy and it made me feel included.
Sara - I hate cheese but some of these are actually good.
Solana - The vegan cheese was fantastic. I am so happy!
Sophie H - Shout out to Mom! I didn't try any of the cheeses. I liked the baguette.
Sophia J-P - I liked the Mimolette, Emmental, Crottin de chevre aux poivres, and Camembert because they were delicious. I'm going to ask my host mom to buy some for the house! I didn't like Saint Nectaire or Saint Marcelin.
Sophia P - Rocquefort was my favorite.
Sydney - Comté is my favorite because it tastes like a sharp white cheddar but better. The rest were fine, but I had comté first so the rest of the cheeses took on its taste. My hands smell like cheese!
Tate - I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Tracy - I tried most of them. So delicious!
Tristan - I liked about half of them.
Victor - It's great, honestly.
Vivien - I enjoyed it! I preferred the softer ones because they had a better taste. I liked the bread.
Zarana - I tried a lot of different cheese. I hated Comté and Morbier, and I liked Saint Nectaire and Reblochon. I prefer hard cheeses!
