Rocks, Tidal Pools, and a beautiful small city.
On June 27th students and Leaders traveled by bus to Avencas Beach to learn about the distribution and disturbance of intertidal organisms. Students were briefed on the Intertidal Twilight Zone Experiment they were going to do and once on the beach, students were divided into groups and placed in 3 different locations in the rocks and tidal pools. Students were very engaged in the exploration and everyone had an awesome time exploring the tidal pools and finding organisms.
On the way to Avencas Beach, we stopped in a small town called Cascais (pronounced kɐsˈkais). Cascais is a town in the Lisbon District of Portugal, located on the Portuguese Riviera. There are a total of 214,158 inhabitants in an area of 97.40 km. Cascais is a quaint and beautiful town, very clean and peaceful. The small stores held fascinating merchandise and interesting variety. The architecture was beautiful and there were many outdoor restaurants and shops. Cascais is an important tourist destination.
