Rennes Gourmande: Tasting the Delicacies of Rennes
On Friday, we had the opportunity to taste the regional delicacies during a food tour! We began with tasting three kinds of jus de pomme, or apple juice. The juice was accompanied by a sweet crêpe.
The tour continued at La Criée, a daily covered market in the center of Rennes. Here, we visited a fromagerie to taste test different kinds of fromage (cheese)! We tried goat cheese, sheep's milk cheese, and many other kinds.
The tour concluded with dessert. We visited a chocolate shop to taste two kinds of chocolats. In this particular shop, the chocolates are labeled with numbers, which correspond to the flavor. Students tried two chocolates and tried to guess which flavor they were. They correctly guessed framboise and menthe, or raspberry and mint.
Throughout the tour, students used their language skills to express their preferences, compare and contrast the foods with those in their own cultures, and ask questions to the locals. It was a delicious ending to our first week in Rennes!
